Reading Freeing Kariba gave me goosebumps for many reasons , first as a woman whose been in the corporate world for over a decade, I related with the pressures and abuse that is sometimes thrust on us in that environment. The abuse that is hidden in words like loyalty, hard work and dedication . Secondly I related with her deep to be a great mom as much as I don't have children of my own, loving others does bring a sense of motherhood and caring for anyone other than self . Thirdly, I related with her deep desire to be free to be a woman , with human feelings and express that with the man she loves without being reduced to anything other than a woman deserving of respect. I loved how Kariba's partner Matt in the book assured her when she was afraid she had been too much for being authentic in her expressions and taking charge of her sexual desires. As women we are often pressured to fit a certain mold of what is called "Good girl" and every time a woman dares to be sexy or free with her sexuality , it is often perceived wrongly . Matt in the book shows authenticity and a kind of man who is matured and confident within himself. Fourthly I loved the family dynamics, the work relationship they have , the friendship and the raw authentic human emotions between both characters. Both had moments of fear , excitement and freedom, which gives a picture of real life relationships . The book also paints a beautiful picture of the submissive and dominant sexual relationship, with respect, trust and freedom. As a rape survivor I was extremely worried of reading the book knowing it had such a content , but the Author has redefined the understanding, it's romantic , it's respectful, it's freedom of expression and trust between two people who deeply care and respect one another .
